The best estimating software for painting contractors in 2026

The short answer: the best choice depends on what is costing you jobs. PaintScout is the most established, most complete sales platform built for painters. PaintForce is the cheapest way in, with AI estimates of exteriors from photos. Jobber is the better choice if your problem is running jobs after they are sold. PaintProof is built for the moment of the sale: it shows the homeowner their own house in the new colors, with Good, Better and Best prices, and gets it signed on the spot.

We make PaintProof, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to be as straight about where the others win as we are about where we do. Each tool also has its own full comparison page, linked below.

PaintScout: the established choice

PaintScout has years of production use behind its estimating templates, presentations, e-signature, payments and automations. It also offers a CRM add-on and paid onboarding packages. It is priced per user: around $119 per user per month at our last check, about $99 on annual billing, with onboarding from roughly $999. It suits larger shops with an office manager and an existing process they want supported. PaintProof vs PaintScout

PaintForce: the cheapest way in

PaintForce runs on iOS, Android, macOS and the web, and it estimates exteriors from photos with AI. At our last check, plans started around $19 a month for one user with a cap on new estimates, $89 for one user unlimited, and $169 for three users. It suits a crew that is not all on iPhones, or a painter who wants the lowest monthly cost. PaintProof vs PaintForce

Jobber: for running the business after the sale

Jobber is a field-service platform for every trade. It handles scheduling, dispatch, route planning, a client hub, invoicing and accounting integrations, and it has AI quote drafting. The entry tier was around $39 a month at our last check. It is not built around painting estimates, and many painters run it alongside a painting sales tool. PaintProof vs Jobber

PaintProof: for closing the job on the visit

PaintProof is a sales app for residential painting contractors that runs in the phone's browser. You measure room by room (or enter siding, trim and door totals outside) and take photos. AI outlines the walls and trim in the photos, and the homeowner watches their own walls change to real Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore colors. Pricing comes from production rates, in three tiers: Good, Better and Best. They sign with a finger and can leave a deposit. Before the visit, an Instant Quote link lets homeowners photograph a room, recolor it and see a price range. You receive it as a lead.

Plans are $79 a month for one person and $119 for the whole crew, with unlimited bids, and every plan starts with a 30-day free trial with no credit card.

Where we fall short: PaintProof is new. We do not have a dedicated support team; support is the founders. We do not do commercial work, and we have no Jobber integration yet.

How to choose

  • Losing jobs to "we'll think about it"? Choose a tool that shows the customer the finished result during the visit.
  • Need the lowest monthly cost? Compare entry tiers, and check what each one caps.
  • Several estimators or a big crew? Work out the price per user against the price per bid for your team size.
  • Jobs falling through after the sale? That is a field-service problem, and a tool like Jobber solves it.
  • Pricing by the square foot today? Whatever you choose, make sure it prices from production rates and labor hours. See how to estimate a paint job.

Most of these tools have a free trial. The best test is to run your next real bid through one and see what the customer does.
