PaintProof vs PaintScout
PaintScout is the most established sales platform built specifically for painting contractors, and it has been at it far longer than we have. If you want the short version: they are the safer, more complete choice today, and we are the better one if the thing losing you jobs is that the customer cannot picture the finished work.

Where PaintScout is stronger
Maturity, mostly, and that counts for a lot. They have years of production use behind estimating templates, presentations, e-signature, payments and automations, plus a CRM add-on with pipelines, calendars, tasks and lead forms. They publish volume numbers we cannot match — billions of dollars in painting sales run through the platform, hundreds of thousands of estimates. They also have paid onboarding packages, which sounds like a cost until you have tried to move a whole company onto new software by yourself.
If you are a larger shop with an office manager, an existing process that works, and a need for someone to answer the phone when it breaks, that is a real argument and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Where PaintProof is different
We are built around one belief: jobs are not usually lost on price, they are lost because the customer is being asked to buy something they cannot see. So the estimate is a showing. You photograph the room, the walls change colour on the screen while they watch, the price sits beside it in Good/Better/Best, and they sign on the spot.
The second difference is the link. You can send a customer a link, they photograph their own rooms, try colours, and get a real price range back — and it comes to you as a lead with their colours already picked. That is a different motion from a quote you write and email.
Price
PaintScout is priced per user. As of our last check (May 2026) that was around $119 per user per month for the core sales product, about $99 on annual, with a CRM add-on on top and one-time onboarding packages starting near $999. Verify on their site — vendors change prices and we are not going to keep a competitor's price list current for them.
PaintProof is $79 a month for one person, or $119 flat for the whole crew however many painters have logins, and every plan starts with a 30-day free trial, no credit card to begin.
What we don't do yet
We are early, and it would be daft to hide it. We do not have their years of edge cases ironed out, we do not have a dedicated support team (support is the founders), and we do not do commercial work. If any of that is disqualifying, it is disqualifying — better you find out here than three weeks in.
Try it on one estimate
The honest test is your next bid. Run it through PaintProof, watch what the customer does when the wall changes colour, and decide from that.
